You can find them for as cheap as $500 with absolutely nothing wrong with them. It should not be confused with the 元3 described below.

The LM4 (VIN code "P") Vortec 5300 is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and had a short production life. The LM7 has an iron block and aluminum heads.Ģ000–2006 Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL The LM7 (VIN code "T") Vortec 5300 was introduced in 1999, and can be considered the "garden variety" version of the Generation III 5.3 liter V8's. It is a stroked (by 9 mm) version of the Vortec 4800 and replaced the 5700 元1. The Vortec 5300, or LM7/L59/LM4/元3, is a V8 truck engine. I found an LM4 only for 350, it's cheap as that? if so. I'm having a hard time searching for similar project on the internet, the v8 thing, lolll. Keep it neat and you'd have a great sleeper car too. A KA24DE would probably be more ideal, more power from a better flowing head, ideal to take a turbo if you're so inclined. Yeah they're on the heavier side, but being an iron block, means they can be built to withstand big power. The KA doesn't have as much aftermarket support but they're pretty underestimated, they can be made to put out big numbers too. SR20s are proven to be reliable with big power. But that doesn't mean that Nissan's engines are rubbish. Yeah and you'd get big power for not much money (mainly since you're in Canada, American parts will be far easier to get than Jap parts). The V8 idea has merit, same thing, a kit to fit a V8 would probably work in a D21. If you can do a SR20DET conversion to those, I bet the exact same process/gear would do it to a D21.

The KA was used in a lot of cars where the CA and SR was, such as the U12 and the S13/S14 Silvias. If there's a carb, it's probably a completely different motor. You have a 450hp monster that weighs as much as a ka24de, is 10x as reliable due to the simplicity, sounds 20x better, parts will cost you half as much if you ever have to buy anything, not to mention you're only in $4000 for the engine, the engine mods, and the fuel management system (megasquirt 3.0), try to build a reliable nissan engine with that much power for anywhere near that price. Its roughly the price of a half-decent turbo kit, and bumps the 5.3 up to over 450hp, and 420 ft.lbs of torque. The best swap would be a 5.3L chevolet truck engine, the aluminum one, (LM4 is the aluminum one), then this awesome kit from trick flow industries: If you arent aware, nissan motors are INCREDIBLY heavy, just as heavy if not heavier than most american V8's! To be honest, the best engine swap for one of those isnt a nissan motor. You mentioned a ka24e/ka24de turbo swap, the truck comes with the ka24e, but the thing is, it isnt EFI, its carbureted, meaning you're going to need to do a ton of work to get it to work properly with an EFI engine.
